Homemade Peanut Butter! YUM!

You will thank me for this!

The basic idea is to put the peanuts into your regular (not the tiny one) food processor and let it do the work. Run it for about 4-5 minutes until it gets to be a thick paste with many tiny peanut granules. It should be slightly crunchy and spreads easily. It is similar to the peanut butter ground in a machine in some supermarkets. Don't grind it too long and get it smooth or it will separate and be oily. You don't have to scrape down the processor bowl as it will get it down to the paste by itself. 2 lbs of peanut butter will almost fill a quart container. I use a wide mouth quart mason jar but you can use anything with a good lid. takeout quart tubs (that held soup) work well too. Make sure you scrape out the sides and under the blade in the processor to get all of that yumminess!

Here are some images from the last batch I made. It was 2 lbs. of Trader Joe's less salted peanuts.

Now for the ingredients. You can get roasted peanuts or cashews with no salt, 50% less salt and fully salted. And there are honey roasted versions too. So there are many combinations you can use to control salt and flavor. You can use less than 2 lbs to test out flavor/salt combinations to see what you like.

For a truly decadent version, use honey roasted peanuts and no salt cashews!! This is pricier but so good! You can also use regular peanuts and cashews to cut out the added sugar. Still very good! Comment on your favorite formulae.

Have a peanutty time!

  1. Better than the regular daily grind! I like that one can control the amount of salt, oil and coarseness in your own processor!
